“Who Then Is the Greatest?” – A Call to Love, Humility, and the End of Sectarian Pride
Confronting Pride, Embracing Unity, and Healing the Divided Church
Preface: I had wished I would never have to write another article like this. Interdenominal hate is yet another scurging of the Body of Christ. However, when I see brothers and sisters in Christ jockeying and positioning against each other it stirs something in my soul that is hard to shake.
There is a grievous fracture in the Body of Christ—one not caused by Satan infiltrating from without, but by pride rising from within. It’s not the schemes of hell tearing down the Church; it’s the Church turning on itself with arrogance masked as doctrinal purity. We’ve allowed denominational titles and theological nuances to become badges of superiority rather than expressions of diversity under the lordship of Jesus. We weaponize our understanding instead of humbling ourselves in reverence to the Mystery of Christ. The same Jesus who bled for every tribe, tongue, and denomination is watching His body accuse, slander, and divide—all in His Name.
And it must stop.
Jesus rebuked His disciples not once, not twice, but repeatedly for their attempts to outshine each other, to claim greater favor, to shut down others in the name of guarding orthodoxy. "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us." But Jesus said to him, “Do not stop him, for the one who is not against you is for you” (Luke 9:49-50). The disciples, obsessed with hierarchy, wanted to corner the market on miracles—as if God needed their permission to move through someone else.
We are repeating their error.
The cross is not denominational. The blood of Jesus does not stop at Baptist borders or Charismatic camps. He is not impressed by titles, theological systems, or eschatological charts. What grieves Him is pride masquerading as spiritual insight. What offends His heart is when we tear down our brother to validate our revelation. Jesus said the world would know us by our love for one another, not our superiority over each other (John 13:35).
It is demonic to use the name of Jesus to build our own brand while silencing those walking in sincere, humble obedience. Beware the spirit that says, “We alone are the remnant. We alone have it right.” That spirit murdered the prophets, nailed the Son of God to a cross, and now prowls church circles whispering elitism into hungry hearts. But listen: unity is not compromise. It’s surrender. It’s humility. It’s Jesus-centered, not ego-driven.
There is no hierarchy among the redeemed. Christ is the Head. The rest of us? Just grateful beggars who found bread and dare not boast as if we baked it ourselves.
Relational Christianity and Identity in Christ
Your brother in Christ is not your rival. Your sister’s revelation is not your threat. We must stop living like orphans clawing for a seat at the table when we’ve already been adopted, seated with Christ in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6). Pride in doctrine is still pride. And pride always separates. Identity in Christ unifies because it’s based not on knowledge, but on love—on being known by the Father. Stop tearing down others to prove your place. The cross settled your value forever.
Action: Humble yourself. Begin to honor the image of Christ in others—even when they don’t speak your language of faith. You are not the gatekeeper of God’s house. You are a beloved son or daughter in a family far bigger than your stream.
Apologetics and the Defense of Faith
Defending the faith does not mean defending our tradition. True apologetics is the fearless proclamation of Christ crucified, not the flawless articulation of denominational distinctives. Paul warned us against “quarreling about words,” which only ruins the hearers (2 Timothy 2:14). Are we contending for truth, or just contending for the last word? Are we defending the gospel or our ego?
Action: Test your motives when engaging in theological conversation. Is love present? Is the goal transformation or domination? If the fruits of the Spirit are absent, your defense is flesh, not faith.
Humanity’s Cosmic Role and Redemption
The Church has a cosmic role—to be the Body through which Christ fills all things (Ephesians 1:22-23). How then can we fulfill such a mission if the body is attacking itself? We are meant to shine as one, reflecting the manifold wisdom of God to powers and principalities. Division dims our witness. Infighting makes us irrelevant. If Satan can’t destroy the Church, he’ll just get us to destroy each other. But we were born for more—united under One Head, filled with One Spirit, called to One hope.
Action: See your calling beyond your denomination. You are part of a global, eternal family called to demonstrate the Kingdom of God in power and unity. Live like your life impacts eternity—because it does.
Biblical Theology and the Supernatural Worldview
The kingdom of God transcends earthly categories. It’s not built by human systems but by revelation and obedience. Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for exalting their interpretation of Scripture above the very God who authored it (John 5:39-40). A supernatural worldview reminds us that God moves through unexpected vessels, speaks through burning bushes and donkeys, and anoints the unqualified. If you think He must conform to your camp to be legitimate, you’ve made a camp your god. Repent.
Action: Embrace the wonder of God’s ways. Submit your understanding to the Spirit. You are a student, not the Master. Let awe replace assumption, and worship replace argument.
Final Exhortation
If you're reading this and conviction pierces your heart—good. That’s the Spirit calling you out of the prison of pride and into the freedom of love. Stop exalting your perspective. Stop policing your brothers. Stop branding your tribe as the purest expression of Jesus. We are one body, one Spirit, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all (Ephesians 4:4-6). And the world is waiting for the Church to finally live like it.
So rise. Humble yourself. Repent of superiority. And honor the Body of Christ with the same reverence you claim to give the Head.
This is the time to walk in the fullness of your identity—marked by love, burning with truth, and fearless in unity.
