A Psalm of Gratitude for the Lord's Hidden Works
O LORD, You are ever-present, though my eyes fail to perceive You.
Your hands move through the shadows of my life when I am unaware.
Before I rise in the morning, You have already ordered my steps;
While I slumber, You stand watch over my household.
Who can comprehend the depth of Your constant labor?
The foundations of the earth testify to Your diligence.
You prepare a table before me in the wilderness;
You make streams flow in barren places I have yet to traverse.
How many times have You turned aside disaster from my path?
How many blessings have I received, not knowing they came from Your hand?
Though I walk through the valley, distracted by shadows,
You have been my shepherd, guiding me to green pastures.
My eyes were fixed on my troubles, yet You were working deliverance;
My ears were filled with the world's noise, yet You were speaking peace.
When I thought myself abandoned, You were carrying me;
When I believed myself forgotten, You had engraved my name on Your palm.
Your mercy follows me all the days of my life,
Even on days I fail to acknowledge Your presence.
The heavens declare Your glory, the earth Your handiwork;
My very breath testifies to Your sustaining power.
You knit me together in my mother's womb,
And You continue to shape my days with loving purpose.
I will praise You, O LORD, for Your hidden works;
I will give thanks for Your unseen Providence.
Teach me to recognize Your movements in the ordinary;
Open my eyes to Your fingerprints upon my everyday life.
For You are the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps;
The Guardian of Israel who watches over His people.
My soul magnifies the LORD, my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
For the Mighty One has done great things—both seen and unseen.
