As the new year begins, I’m reminded of the incredible opportunity we have to live more fully in Him. People often look to this time of year to set resolutions or make plans, but what about simply becoming more like Jesus? That’s the heartbeat of this season for me—letting the days ahead be all about knowing Him more and reflecting His love.
Jesus isn’t just an idea or a Sunday sermon—He’s real, alive, and longing for us to walk with Him. He’s the reason we can wake up every day with hope, no matter what’s happening around us. So why wouldn’t we fix our hearts on Him and let this year be about deepening our connection with the One who gave everything for us?
Look Back to Move Forward
Before we look ahead, it’s good to reflect on where we’ve been. Are there areas where we’ve been distracted, trying to find fulfillment in things other than Jesus? Maybe we’ve let fear or busyness crowd out time with Him. But you know what’s amazing? Jesus doesn’t keep score or hold our past against us. He’s always inviting us into His presence, saying, “Come to Me.” This isn’t about condemnation; it’s about letting His love draw us closer.
Practical Ways to Pursue Jesus
Living in relationship with Jesus is simple—but simple doesn’t mean shallow. It’s about intentionally walking with Him in everything. Here are a few ways we can do that:
Stay in the Word The Word of God is alive, powerful, and it’s where we get to hear His voice. Don’t just read it to check a box; let it read you! Let His truth shape how you think and live. Even one verse, meditated on and believed, can change everything.
Pray Like He’s Right There Prayer isn’t a ritual—it’s communion. It’s about talking to Him throughout the day, sharing your heart, and listening for His. When you’re driving, working, or resting, just stay aware of Him. He’s always with you, and He loves when you turn your heart toward Him.
Connect with Others Who Love Him We weren’t meant to do this alone. Find people who are pursuing Jesus and run with them. Whether it’s a small group, church family, or just a couple of friends, being in community keeps us encouraged and accountable.
Live to Love Jesus didn’t come to be served but to serve, and He calls us to do the same. Look for ways to bless and serve the people around you—not to earn anything, but because His love compels you. This is how we shine His light in the world.
Trust Him in Every Season
Let’s be honest—we don’t know what this year will bring. But that’s okay, because Jesus is faithful. He’s not just with us on the good days; He’s with us when life feels heavy or uncertain. The key is trusting Him—not trying to figure everything out, but resting in His goodness and letting Him lead.
His mercies are new every morning:
"Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” —Lamentations 3:22-23:
and that means we can let go of yesterday and step into today with hope. This isn’t about striving; it’s about abiding. When we’re rooted in Him, His life flows through us and impacts everything we do.
Let’s Go After Him Together
I’m challenging myself, and I’m inviting you too: let’s make this year all about Jesus. Let’s seek Him first, let His love transform us, and let His Spirit guide us in every step. Imagine what could happen if we lived fully surrendered to Him—not just on Sundays, but every single day.
This isn’t about setting lofty goals or trying harder. It’s about waking up each day and saying, “Jesus, I’m Yours. Have Your way in me.” He’s worthy of our everything, and there’s no greater joy than walking with Him.
