A Letter to the Church in America
Hey, family. Can I just say I love you? I mean that. I’m not writing this to point fingers or call anyone out—I’m writing because my heart burns for you to know Him more, to walk fully in what He paid for, and to shine His light in this world. Grace and peace to you, and may your hearts be stirred as you read this.
I see so much good in the church in America—people hungry for truth, passionate about Jesus, and longing for revival. But recently, I’ve heard from many who have been deeply hurt by their experiences with Christians and the church. Let’s be honest: zeal without true surrender doesn’t lead to transformation. And here’s the truth—God will never call us to a zeal or surrender that harms others or comes at their expense. What He desires is unity, intimacy with Him, and a life fully committed to the whole message of the gospel. It’s time we stop letting the world’s standards shape us and instead allow His Spirit to transform us from the inside out.
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." Romans 12:2
Now, let’s talk about what it means to be His ambassadors. You know what an ambassador does, right? They live in a foreign land, representing their home country, but they don’t isolate themselves from the people they’re sent to. That’s us. That’s you. We’re called to live by kingdom principles, but not in a way that separates us from the people who need to see Jesus. Holiness isn’t distance. Righteousness isn’t rejection. Jesus Himself prayed that we wouldn’t be taken out of the world, but that we’d be protected as we live in it and shine His light
"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world." John 17:15-18
Church, why do we chase things that leave us empty? Why are we measuring our success by how big our buildings are or how polished our worship sets sound? The world doesn’t need a church that looks just like them with a “Christian” label slapped on it. They need a church that’s different, a church that loves when it’s hard, forgives when it hurts, and speaks truth with compassion. You are called to be a light in the darkness:
"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16
Don’t hide that light under a basket of fear, compromise, or division.
Listen, standing apart doesn’t mean standing above. It’s not about looking down on people or pointing fingers at the lost. Jesus stood apart, but He walked among. He was holy, but He touched the leper. He ate with sinners. He washed the feet of the ones who would betray Him.
"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you." John 13:14-15
That’s what holiness looks like. It doesn’t withdraw—it reaches out. If we’re going to stand apart, we’ve got to do it in a way that draws people in, not drives them away.
Can we just get back to the basics? Jesus didn’t call us to make converts. He called us to make disciples:
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20
You know the difference? A convert hears the gospel, but a disciple lives it. A convert says a prayer, but a disciple picks up their cross every day and follows Him Luke 9:23. Discipleship isn’t a moment. It’s a journey. It’s walking with people, teaching them, learning from them, growing together. Who are you discipling right now? Who are you letting disciple you? This isn’t about attending church—it’s about being the church.
And hey, let me be real with you. Worship isn’t about performance. It’s not about lights or stages or how good the band sounds. Worship is about the posture of your heart before God John 4:23-24. Don’t let the culture of performance sneak into your gatherings. When you come together, it’s not to be entertained—it’s to encounter Him. Sing because you love Him. Lift your hands because you’re in awe of Him. Let your worship be full of spirit and truth, not empty noise.
Family, we’ve got to get back to serving the gospel, not the platform. Jesus didn’t come to be served but to serve, and to give His life for us Mark 10:45. That’s what we’re called to do too. Serve one another in humility Philippians 2:3-4. Preach the gospel with your words, yes, but also with your lives. Let your generosity, your compassion, and your joy be a testimony to the world. Let them see Jesus in the way you love John 13:35.
Time is short. God is shaking everything that can be shaken so that only His kingdom remains:
"The words 'once more' indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe." Hebrews 12:27-28
Don’t fear it. Rejoice in it. Let the shaking strip away everything that’s not of Him. Hold on to what is eternal.
When the world looks at us, let them see a people who live differently because of Jesus. Let them see a church that refuses to compromise on truth and love. Let them see a family that’s secure in their identity in Him, not afraid of the lost but embracing them. Let them see hope. Let them see life.
Stand firm. Walk in His Spirit. Let Christ be fully formed in you. He’s the prize. He’s the treasure. He’s everything. And I know this: the One who started this good work in you will carry it to completion Philippians 1:6. Let’s press on together for His glory.
I love you. He loves you. Let’s live like we believe it.
Your brother in Christ.
